The Shmita Project is a process that will have as much to do with the six years between Shmita as the Seventh year itself. We invite you to join us as we creatively wrestle with our modern,
industrial world, imagining and attempting to interweave a year of rest into it all.
We are looking for people from all backgrounds and from a wide range of fields and areas of expertise to contribute to this project. All it takes is asking a question…What would it look like to
infuse all aspects of the Jewish and non-Jewish community with the values and ideals found in the Shmita year? What would it be like to live in a world where our food policies were based on
Jewish tradition, adapted to the principles and morals of Shmita?
There are several ways to get involved in the Shmita Project now:
-
Attend the Hazon Food Conference and participate in the Shmita Project sessions. To learn more visit www.hazon.org/foodconference.
-
Attend the Jewish Farm School co-sponsored Kayam Beit Midrash on the topic of “Shmita and Society,” February 9-12, 2012, where 200+ people will spend 3 days studying about
Shmita and working together to design specific strategies of application
-
Write something for the website: Think about your work in the world. How can you look at it through the lens of the values and ideals found in the Shmita year? Send
your thoughts to shmitaproject@hazon.org
-
Plant a fruit tree. You’ll be able to eat and fully enjoy her fruit next Shmita while fully keeping the mitzvot of the year!
-
Contribute: We beleive that this is important work and will be devoting considerable energy and resources towards its fulfilment. As a small non-profit we rely on the
